week twelve 11/10-11/16
Why did the ceramic artists just pot around the studio without making anything?
They were just *kiln* time…
Haha!
Anyway, this week on Tuesday we had a workshop with Phoebe Scott. I wish I had taken pictures but I was too busy taking notes ;)
Listening to her talk about her process while she was working and giving a demo was quite instructive and eye-opening. Her use of large slabs to construct a figure that quickly was awesome. I’m inspired to take advantage of using slabs in my future work, especially in the bases of the figure lamps I plan to make.
Here’s late art that I made this week! Ignore the one in the back haha.
On the subject of urns, at this point I have finished building the second urn. I’m happy with the way I finished it, scared for glazing.
My plan is to let it dry very slowly and carefully, and to bisque it immediately before Thanksgiving break.
If the photo looks weird, its because I photoshopped the little clay beads on to get an idea of the whole composition (since they have to be added after all the firing is completed). I’m excited to figure out how to glaze fire them!
